The pre-summer season is a transitional period with warmer days and still cooler nights, and possible occasional light showers that rejuvenate the soil.

It is a crucial time for agriculture, as farmers prepare their fields for the upcoming summer crops. It is often associated with the planting of hardy crops like peanuts, sesame, and millets, as well as vegetables such as spinach and gourds.

Culturally, this season is significant as it aligns with preparations for festivals like Masi Magam, which celebrates the renewal of life and the blessings of water. It serves as a bridge between the cooler and warmer months, symbolizing growth, transformation, and the promise of abundance.

These seasonal fruits and vegetables are freshly harvested and ready to be included in your meals:

Vegetables: Basella spinach, Bottle gourd, Brinjal, Cucumber, Green papaya, Lady finger, Long bean, Pumpkin, Sweet corn, Tomato, Winged bean.

Greens & Herbs: Amaranth greens, Basil, Chicken spinach, Lemongrass, Lettuce, Ruccola, New zealand spinach, Ponnanganni spinach.

Roots: Ginger, Sweet potato, Tapioca, Turmeric, Yam.

Fruits: Banana, Dry coconut, Lemon Papaya.
